There are many opportunities for parents and carers to become more involved in the College as a volunteer.
Classroom teachers always eagerly welcome parents who would like to assist with excursions, art and craft activities, cooking, and various other classroom activities.
The College is especially grateful for parent and carer volunteers assisting with the various sport carnivals and taking on coach, manager and umpire roles for team sports. Without the generosity of our parent community, it would not be possible to enter the vast amount of team sports that we do, which our students so thoroughly enjoy.
We regularly request volunteers for events, including the Welcome Families BBQ, Mother’s Day Breakfast and Father’s Day Breakfast.
Requirements for volunteers
As a Child Safe Organisation and in line with legislation all volunteers must hold a current Registration to Work with Vulnerable People. Applications are processed through Service Tasmania and take at least six weeks to process.
Volunteers, as mandatory reporters, are also required to complete the online CET Safeguarding Children Briefing/Form, which can be accessed via the link below.
Both of these requirements must be met prior to volunteering.
All visitors on site must sign in at reception using the iPad provided. Sign in provides a brief induction addressing topics such as: Workplace Health and Safety; Code of Conduct; emergency evacuation and lockdown procedures; first aid and injury; hazards and incident reporting; child safety and mandatory reporting; and privacy and confidentiality.
Presentation Families
Presentation Families is a group of parents and carers of St Mary’s College who focus on building community. Our goal is to make the College a place of welcome where families feel comfortable being in partnership with the College in Catholic education for their children and young people.
Parents and carers are invited to share ideas of opportunities to support hospitality, compassion and inclusion of all.
Presentation Families is not a fundraising body. Parents and carers at St Mary’s College contribute a levy of $20 per family annually. The purpose of the levy is to alleviate pressure on families to fundraise for the College.
This fund will be used first and foremost to fund family events at the College. An initial meeting early in the year will budget for family events and in consultation with the College, decide on a target for the remaining funds which reflects benefit for students in both the Junior and Senior Schools.
How can I be involved?
