Year 3/4 Division 1 basketballers score regional title
Our Year 3/4 division 1 team pulled off a superstar win at the recent Regional Basketball Competition (South).
Well done to the team, along with their dedicated coach, Mrs Anderson and manager, Mr Purves!
We wish the girls the best of luck as they go on to contest the state championships in December.
We are also thrilled to report that all four SMC teams did tremendously well at the competition and represented the College with amazing pride.
SSATIS basketball grand slam
Our Year 8 SSATIS basketball team has capped off a successful season on the court, winning their Southern Grand Final against Mount Carmel College on November 1.
The team put in a strong effort to take out the game with a score of 44-24. Well done, girls!
St Mary’s dominates regional basketball tournament
St Mary’s had three teams compete in the Basketball Tasmania High School Regional Tournament held in Hobart last weekend: Year 7/8 Division 1, Year 7/8 Division 2 and Year 9/10 Division 1.
Our Year 7/8 Division 1 girls had an outstanding weekend, going through undefeated to win their grand final on Sunday afternoon. They have now been invited to compete in the state final to be held in Launceston on the weekend of November 25-26.
We kindly thank Ashley Banks for coaching the girls and Shellie Wilton for managing the team, and we wish them all well in Launceston.
UPDATE: The Year 7/8 Division 1 girls played spectacularly in the regional basketball state final, finishing third on the ladder. Congratulations on an outstanding result!
Our Year 7/8 Division 2 girls enjoyed a fantastic weekend considering they were reduced in numbers and had to play a very even competition. The team came runners-up and should be very proud of their achievements.
A huge thank you to Daniel Marr for coaching and looking after the girls.
Our Year 9/10 Division 1 girls fared well in a tough competition, finishing fourth overall. The team enjoyed the weekend and the opportunity to play with their school mates.
We thank Robin Rhodes for coaching the girls and Wendy Studley for managing the team.
All girls should be congratulated for the way in which they represented their school and families. They displayed great sportsmanship and supported the other SMC teams with loud cheering when they were off the court.
St Mary’s College student and qualified basketball umpire, Taylor Lowry (Year 10) should be commended for her amazing efforts in refereeing the weekend games.
