Work Experience students get a taste of the legal world

Posted on in Senior School

As part of the College’s Year 10 Work Experience program, students are given the opportunity to explore a wide range of career pathways, develop essential workplace skills and gain valuable insights into their future aspirations.

Recently, Senior School students Feona Jobi Cheri, Charlotte Hordern (Year 10), and Hal Cormack (Year 11) completed a placement at the esteemed Tasmanian legal firm, Butler McIntyre & Butler. Their time at the firm offered a unique window into the legal profession and a glimpse of what a future in law might look like.

Charlotte Hordern shared her reflections on the experience:

Working at Butler McIntyre & Butler was both extremely fascinating and tremendously fun. It offered an incredible introduction to the fast-paced world of law and what a legal career could entail. Every day brought something new – whether it was researching court cases or observing proceedings in the Magistrates and Supreme Courts, the experience was enthralling. It was insightful to see the meticulous work lawyers put into each case to ensure the best outcomes for their clients. We picked up many valuable skills such as problem-solving, critical thinking and communication.

The experience was not only informative but also genuinely enjoyable. We’re extremely grateful to Mr Zeeman and the team at Butler McIntyre & Butler for this opportunity, and to Ms Deconinck and Mrs Paske for coordinating it all.
