Theatre Performance Class presents 'The Importance of Being Earnest'

Posted on in Senior School

The St Mary’s College Theatre Performance class proudly presents Oscar Wilde’s ‘The Importance of Being Earnest’ – a sparkling comedy of manners, mischief and morality that’s been charming audiences since its debut in 1895.

Staged over two evenings, Monday 20 and Tuesday 21 October, this production promises sharp wit, clever irony and laugh-out-loud slapstick humour that’s just as fresh and funny today as it was in Wilde’s time.

Cecily Cardew and Gwendolen Fairfax are both in love with the same mythical suitor. Jack Worthing has wooed Gwendolen as Ernest, while Algernon has also posed as Ernest to win the heart of Jack’s ward, Cecily. When all four arrive at Jack’s country home on the same weekend, pandemonium breaks loose and only a senile nursemaid and an old, discarded handbag can save the day!

Don’t miss your chance to support our talented students in their final production for 2025, which also contributes to their end-of-year external assessment.

Be earnest… or at least pretend to be!
