Tasmanian Philosothon

31 August 2022

Mary Morgan Wing, St Mary's College

4:00 pm - 6:00 pm

We warmly invite students in Years 7-12 to attend a Tasmanian Philosothon, hosted by St Mary’s College.

A Philosothon is a meeting of students that encourages them to investigate philosophical questions in the context of the ‘Communities of Inquiry’ model of learning. Participation in these events enables students to develop their thinking and communication skills through a series of discussions with like-minded students from other schools.

During the evening there will be a series of ‘Community of Inquiries’ that will run consecutively. This could mean that there will be several groups with a number of students meeting at any one time, all groups will consider the same topic for 45 minutes. Group members will remain in their year level group (7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12)  and utilise the ‘Communities of Inquiry’ model to discuss the topics.

Towards the end of the night, there will be a short break and each year group will make a presentation summarising their discussion of the topic. Parents, families, carers and friends are invited to join us at 5.15pm to listen to students and hear their ideas.
