Leavers' Dinner 2014On Friday 28 November the Year 12 class of 2014 celebrated another rite of passage – their Year 12 Leavers’ Dinner. Cameras, sequins, laughter, tears and dancing – the event had it all! They were no longer girls, but lovely young women, who all looked so glamorous and classy dressed in their finery. The Year 12s had a great night and their parents, significant others and partners were delighted to share it with them.

Year 5 Leadership Day

Written by SMC Administrator. Posted in News

Year 5 Leadership DayOn November 14, eight students from Year 5 were chosen to attend a leadership day at Mt Carmel College.

A representative from Caritas spoke to us about good leadership skills, how lucky we are and what good leaders need. What most surprised me was that out of five categories, from the poorest to the richest people in the world, we are some of the richest. We are really lucky to have a roof over our heads, clean water, comfy beds, education and money, but still want more. Whereas people over the other side of the world don’t have any of this and have very little to eat and dirty water to drink.

We also learnt a lot of leadership skills and I think it was a great experience and everyone enjoyed it.

Remembrance Day Poems

Written by SMC Administrator. Posted in News

poppiesOn Tuesday 11 November, the College commemorated Remembrance Day with one minute’s silence, along with the rest of the Nation. Several classes focused on the special day with various units of work, with Mrs Lack’s Year 4 Blue Gums’ class choosing to reflect with poetry.

A copy of Millie Lane and Charlotte Rafferty’s poems can be viewed below:

Red poppies grow all over Flanders’ fields where once people were fighting to keep us safe and alive.

I listen as I hear all the gun shots fire into the ground making big boulders all around them.

I see all the gun powder spreading amongst all the poppies in the fields.

LEST WE FORGET

By Millie lane

I SOB I CRY HOPING DADDY WON’T DIE

It starts I hear gun shots in my sleep

I say bye to dad for the 100th time.

Mum hugs me slowly

I SOB I CRY HOPING DADDY WON’T DIE

It’s been one year. The

Clock Strikes eleven we stand

Quietly for one minute of

slience

I SOB I CRY HOPING DADDY WON’T DIE

He comes home today I’m so

excited! Mum and I made dad

biscuits. We wait and wait where

was he?

I SOB I CRY HOPING DADDY WON’T DIE

A day went past I was hoping

Mums crying won’t last. Then a

Knock at the door I run it’s dad

He hugs me and we are all so thankful

I SOB I CRY IM THANKFUL THAT DADDY DIDN’T DIE
