Italian Long Lunch FundraiserOn Sunday 21 September, St Mary’s College hosted an Italian Long Lunch fundraiser in St Peter’s Hall.

Coordinated by Homeroom 11/12B and Mr Ivano Del Pio, the event was a huge success, with every last ticket selling out.

Students, staff, family and friends of the College enjoyed a delicious three course menu of Italian food, homemade with love. Patrons also enjoyed musical entertainment by Vittorio Ferri and meeting special guest Matthew Evans, from The Gourmet Farmer.

All proceeds from the event will go towards the Archbishop’s Samaritan Project.

Thank you to everyone who helped with the event by lending crockery, herbs, donating goods and assisting with preparing the delicious food.

1st Grade State Final Success

1st Grade Basketball TeamOn Friday 19 September St Mary’s hosted the State finals for Netball and Basketball 1st Grade Teams. In front of a vocal and large St Mary’s crowd our Netball girls were first to take the court. They came up against a very talented Scotch Oakburn team but showed that they deserved to be representing their school by playing a very hard fought contested game. Scotch Oakburn were eventual winners by 20 goals but the girls should all be very proud of their efforts and the achieving the opportunity to play in the state final.

Congratulations to:

Madison Becker (Captain), Sophie Saville (Deputy), Claire Roberts, Erin Batchelor, Taylor Kemp, Jemima Tomlin, Kaitlin Petrie, Jamie Symons, Chelsea Roberts (reserve) Mrs Therese Harris (Coach) and Mrs Frances Mann (Manager).

The Netball was followed by a very exciting game of Basketball against a strong Marist Regional College Team from Burnie. Our girls were very nervous and took a little while to settle. Once they did settle their passing and shooting accuracy was outstanding and saw them take the lead. The game was very tightly contested and our girls were eventual winners! This is the first time in a very long time that SMC has won a Basketball State final!

Congratulations to:

Nyandeng Guot (Captain), Evie Allwright (Deputy), Sidney Goram-Aitken, Madison Becker, Loveth Ochayi, Juliet Pritchard, Zara Dixon, Ellie Collins, Taylor Mole, Jamie Symons and Catherine Morgan.

Netball Success

1st Grade Netball FinalOn September 9 the St Mary’s College 1st Grade Netball Team played in the Southern SATIS Grand Final against Guilford Young College.

It was a hard-fought match with St Mary’s overcoming the odds to beat the previously-unbeaten GYC team. GYC certainly made St Mary’s work for their victory by playing solid netball at both ends of the court. But St Mary’s had an answer for everything GYC could throw at them, and St Mary’s gradually built on their modest three goal half-time lead to end up victors with a score of 37-30 at the final whistle.

This is a fantastic result on the back of the St Mary’s 1st Grade team winning the Southern SATIS Grand Final in 2013.
