Advice to parents: Novel coronavirus

Written by Shelley Medhurst. Posted in Timeline

We hold the safety of students and staff with the utmost importance and following advice from Catholic Education Tasmania, we would like to provide you with further information about Novel coronavirus.

For detailed information about the Novel coronavirus provided by the Australian Government Department of Health, please read here.

While we do not wish to disrupt families or cause unnecessary alarm, the College will adopt a similar approach to many other schools who may have students who have visited the affected areas in China, particularly the Hubei Province. Please note the following:

  • Students or staff must be excluded from school if informed by Public Health authorities that they are a close contact of a confirmed case of the novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV), irrespective of whether they have developed symptoms.
  • Students and staff may be excluded from school if they have recent travel history to mainland China and develop symptoms (until their primary care provider and Public Health units determine otherwise).
  • Students and staff should not be excluded from school if they have travelled to mainland China but have no symptoms.

Should you have any concerns about this matter, please do not hesitate to contact James Lambert, Risk and Compliance Manager via email jlambert@smc.tas.edu.au or phone 03 61082560.

We pray for those who have been affected by this virus.
