Senior School Sports Science and Outdoor Education
Health and Physical Education at St Mary’s College is compulsory for students from Kindergarten to Year 10, with elective subjects available for our Year 11 and 12 students. We offer our students a wide variety of sports, skills, games, team work strategies, recreation and fitness activities within our program. Our Health program is sequential for our secondary years where we cover a broad range of health topics, as you can see below.
The Health, Outdoor and Physical Education program is an integral part of the curriculum at St Mary’s College. The program we teach is from the Tasmanian curriculum and we will be implementing the new Australian Curriculum once it becomes available for our subject area.
One of our mottos’ is “Moving, Learning and Achieving” and we strive to provide a framework in which our student can develop physically, mentally, socially, spiritually and emotionally. Through Health, Outdoor and Physical Education experiences students have the opportunity to gain knowledge, develop team work skills, enhance physical health and fitness, and to acquire skills like coping strategies, which promote a healthy lifestyle.
At St Mary’s College we offer numerous extracurricular sports from fun run and surfing competitions to sporting rosters organised by Southern SATIS. We also hold Swimming (Big Splash), Cross Country and Athletics carnivals throughout the year. These days really highlight our SMC and house spirit and very enjoyable days with a lot of participation and colour!
