St Mary’s College students collected a swag of ribbons at the Junior Southern Sports Association of Tasmania Independent Schools (JSSATIS) Swimming Carnival held recently at the Doone Kennedy Aquatic Centre.
In an impressive result for the College, the majority of our swimmers finished in the top four of their race, with many crossing the line to earn top-three honours and a ribbon.
All girls should be commended on their performances and behaviour on the day.
Captain and vice captains announced
The leadership roles for the Junior swimming team have been announced, with Year 6 students, Aurora Giuliani named as Captain and Georgia Blanton as Vice Captain.
In recognition of her achievement as Top Year 6 Female of the meet, Aurora was presented with the Bill Henderson Memorial Shield and medal at the JSSATIS Swimming Carnival. Aurora shares the shield with Daniel Wylie, of St Virgil’s College – who was awarded the title of Top Year 6 Male at the same event, before it is handed over in six months’ time.
Aurora dominated the pool at the carnival, with records broken in the 100m freestyle and the 50m freestyle.
After a short, but much-deserved break, the SMC swim team is now training hard ahead of the Southern Tasmanian Catholic Primary Schools Sports Association (STCPSSA Swimming Carnival), which will take place on Friday 9 April. Go girls!
