The Junior School is a vibrant learning community comprising of classes in each year level, Kindergarten to Year 6. Staff and parents work in partnership to guide each student toward reaching their full potential in an environment based firmly on the Gospel values.

St Mary’s College nurtures students to continually grow their love of learning, so they are confident and caring citizens that belong to a rich and supportive Catholic community.

Students are provided with a well-balanced, child-centred education experience.

The College offers a caring, supportive environment that enables students to learn according to individual learning strengths and readiness. We have both extension and support programs to ensure equity of access to our extensive curriculum opportunities.

The curriculum includes an evidence-based literacy and numeracy program, a wide range of arts and science related subjects, and many opportunities for involvement in sporting and cultural activities. Teachers meet regularly to plan and review all aspects of learning and programs delivered at the College and, wherever appropriate, specialist teachers work to complement the classroom program. Specialist subjects include Music, Choir, Materials and Design, Library, Chinese and Physical Education.

Every member of the College community is valued and cared for in an atmosphere built upon mutual respect and the recognition of the worth of the individual. The Presentation values of Respect, Responsibility, Relationships and Resilience are explicitly modelled and taught in the Junior School.

Groving our love of learning

St Mary's College is located on the traditional lands of the muwinina people of the South East Nation. We acknowledge and deeply respect the palawa people, the Tasmanian Aboriginal Community, and all Elders past and present. We are committed to learning alongside our students and community in this place, nipaluna, and support the continued sharing of knowledge and culture.
